Missing In Action

By Kevin | Jul 9, 2008

I’m sure you all may have noticed the decrease in publishing over the last few weeks. I have had a lot on my plate at work lately and have had MUCH less time to write and research.

I wanted to let you all know that over the next 2-4 weeks the writing will be fairly slow while I am juggling things with work and family. After this time I should have my time and freedom back and will be back on board full steam ahead.

I am sorry for the inconvenience and I hope you all will understand.

Improve Windows Vista Boot Speed

By Kevin | Jul 2, 2008

In stumbling around trying to speed up my computer I noticed a little section in my MS Config options. Most of the newer computers that are running Vista are dual core computers and as such have more resources available for use during startup. By default, Vista uses just a single core for startup, but that can be easily changed by following the following steps to tweak this.

Run Your Car on Vegetable Oil

By Kevin | Jul 1, 2008

I’ve just stumbled across a kit that is aimed for the DIY group to allow you to convert your diesel burning automobile to run on vegetable oil. The kit from GreaseCar.com includes everything you will need besides the tools to convert your car over to run on that second hand oil. I will add the disclaimer that if you don’t know your way around a car, this is probably not the right thing for you.

Upload to Flickr Via Email

By Kevin | Jun 30, 2008

I’m actually writing this post while I’m on a mini-vacation (Read: Sanity Break). I got to thinking about different ways to update pictures from my blackberry and share them on the web. Being new to Flickr and never really using it before I wasn’t sure if there was a way to upload a picture from your phone via email.

After just a few minutes of poking around I was able to find a way to email a picture as an attachment directly to a specially generated email address from Flickr and have it added to your photo stream. The process is fairly simple, but I thought I’d highlight the process for you and share it for those unsure how.

How to Stop Your Junk Mail

By Kevin | Jun 29, 2008

If your home is anything like mine, you recieve more junk mail that you would like to and feel that it is an uphill battle to stop it from coming each day. I used to think this and have been doing some research online and have found some good ways to drastically reduce the amount of junk I recieve.

Your name, address, phone number, email address, and even your consumer habits are a huge commodity that is traded freely on the open market. This is a common practice with just about any agency that you deal with, and here are a couple things I’ve come up with to stop it:

Say Goodbye to Skype’s Outlook Contacts

By Kevin | Jun 26, 2008

I’m just recently jumping on the Skype bandwagon and thought I’d download it the other day and try it out. I’ve got to say that I think that it is a pretty cool program and look forward to putting it to use to it’s full potential in the near future. The whole process was simple from the install to the setup and I didn’t have any complaints along the way until I signed in for the first time. Where and the world did all these contacts come from?

I don’t know about you all, but I have a pretty large address book in my Outlook. It took me a minute or so to realize that everyone in my address book was automatically imported into Skype by default. That’s no good for me since I really only want to use it for my online contacts, acquaintance’s, and partners. After doing a little searching around and playing with the different menus I was able to find the option to disable this feature and thought I’d share it with you all.

Customize Your Windows Vista Start Menu

By Kevin | Jun 19, 2008

The Start Menu in Windows Vista comes ready to use for most users, however there are a large number that would prefer to have some customized items within it. Below are a few that I currently use that I find makes life a bit easier for me. I hope you find these tips as useful as I have.

How to Make a PCB

By Kevin | Jun 16, 2008

I’ve run into a few projects that I needed to make a custom Printed Circuit Board for doing things around the house. I did a lot of experimenting with this when I was building my own Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) Routing Machine. (Keep an eye out in the near future for an article on my machine and possibly a series on how to build your own.)

I started my journey in learning about making my own PCB’s with absolutely no background in ever making my own so I had a lot of trial and error that I wanted to share with you all. There are a lot of articles and websites on line, however I wasn’t able to find an article that encompassed everything that I wanted to do and was geared for someone that had never done this before.
